Recruitment

Why join?
Joining Sigma Chi is one of the best decisions a male Pacific undergraduate could make. Here a just a few reasons to consider joining:

  • Lifelong friendships. Brothers of our chapter form lifelong bonds with a diverse group of talented peers.
  • Social opportunities. We provide ample opportunities for socialization within the Pacific community as well as in the NorCal Province.
  • Community service. Our chapter is dedicated to improving the surrounding community. We hold an annual philanthropic event called Derby Days that benefits the Hunstman Cancer Institute. In addition, our brothers volunteer at animal shelters, Very Special Person bowling, Saturday PIE, Relay for Life, and many other community service opportunities.
  • International connections. Sigma Chi is an international fraternity, with more than 200 chapters across the United States and Canada.
  • Alumni network. Past brothers from our chapter have gone onto get jobs in a variety of industries across the nation. Brothers from other chapters have gone on to become CEOs, distinguished professors, high-ranking governement officials, reknowned doctors, and Hollyood actors.

Recruitment, pledgeship, and brotherhood
The University has set aside a recruitment period that is held at the beginning of every fall and spring semester. This is a time set aside for you to get to know more about our organization and its members, and vice versa, through a number of social events. The best way to determine whether Sigma Chi is for you is to attend these events and get to know the brothers. You are then able to consider our organization's fitness for you and we consider your fitness with our organization. The criteria we use to evealuate prospective brothers is listed in the Jordan Standard. The standard states that we will admit no man to membership who is not believed to be:

  • A man of good character
  • A student of fair ability
  • With ambitious purposes
  • A congenial disposition
  • Possessed of good morals
  • Having a high sense of honor and
  • A deep sense of personal responsibility

At Pacific, Sigma Chis come from different backgrounds and all walks of life. We do not discriminate based on ethnicity, sexual orientation, or economic status. If we offer you a bid to join our fraternity and you accept, you and your pledge brothers will begin a semester-long program known as pledgeship in Sigma Chi. During pledgeships, you will learn much about your personal character and that of your pledge brothers, the history of our fraternity, and the principles that we uphold. In addition, you will participate in various pledgeship activities, Sigma Chi social activities, and philanthropy events. If, at the end of the semester, you have demonstrated the qualities of a true Sigma Chi, you will be initiated into our fraternity.

The Kappa Sigma chapter of Sigma Chi follows the fraternity-wide policy known as Mission 365. Even though there are formal recruitment periods, we don't limit ourselves to those timeframes. Instead, we are always actively seeking members throughout then entire year. If you are interested in joining Sigma Chi, getting more information about our chapter, or have any questions, feel free to fill out our Recruitment Contact Form and our recruitment chair will get back to you as soon as possible.
