The Sigma Chi Fraternity emphasizes success in academics. The Jordan Standard states that Sigma Chi looks for “students of fair ability.” Fair ability is defined as better than average course work and an intelligible conversationalist. Sigma Chi was founded based on the principle of learning. “The purpose of the Sigma Chi fraternity shall be to maintain and cultivate the high ideals of friendship, justice and learning.”
The University of the Pacific Sigma Chi chapter is proud of our academic achievements. The chapter commits themselves to achieving a GPA goal every semester. Every member is expected to maintain at least a 2.50 GPA throughout his membership. We have programs in place that help member’s maintain their academicswhile being involved in Sigma Chi. The chapter house has a study room, which is used quite often by members. The room contains two desks and file cabinets of past notes and files from previous members. We have had or do have members majoring in almost all aspects of the University of the Pacific curriculum, so there is always someone nearby to help you with classes.
Currently, the chapter has men majoring in Biology, Business, Communication, Computer Science, Education, Film, Political Science, Psychology, Sports Management, and Sports Science. Many of the Biology majors are in the Pre-Dentistry and the Pre-Pharmacy programs. We have alumni currently attending dental school, law school, medical school, and pharmacy school. Some alumni are enrolled in various masters programs around campus.
Sigma Chi earned the highest GPA of all the fraternities in the past two academic semesters (Fall 2008 and Spring 2009). Since Spring2006, Sigma Chi has had a GPA at or above the all men’s average on the University of the Pacific campus. Below is our academic history compared to the all men’s GPA.

Overall, the University of the Pacific Sigma Chi chapter has a rich history for academics. We have continued to strive semester after semester and persevere to be the best academic chapter on this campus. We have a lot of fun as brothers socially but we know when it is time to buckle down and focus on our academics. This is evident through the grades the chapter has produced.
